Kawada (川田 Kawada?) is a Japanese manga artist known for creating the manga series Hinomaru Sumo and Martial Master Asumi.

Biography[]

He made his debut in Morning (Kodansha). He has been published several times in "Monthly Morning Two". Around this time, he began working as an assistant for Ryou Koshino.

He submitted a short story called "Love and Justice" to the Tezuka Award, an open competition for new manga artists in the Jump series, and received an honorable mention at the 77th Tezuka Award (2009). At the time of winning the Tezuka Award, he was advised by the person in charge to serialize his work in a youth magazine. However, Kawada's desire to write for a shōnen magazine at least once led him to seek serialization in Weekly Shonen Jump (Shueisha), where he worked as an assistant under Tadatoshi Fujimaki, who was serializing Kuroko's Basketball at the time.

Kawada conceived of a serialization based on the theme of sumo, which he liked, and Hinomaru Sumo was published in Shonen Jump NEXT! (Shueisha) 2013 Spring. A reading version of the manga was published in Weekly Shonen Jump 2013 issue 39, and the manga was serialized in the same magazine from 2014 issue 26 to 2019 issue 34.

Starting with issue #29, 2023 of Weekly Shonen Jump, he is currently serializing Marial Master Asumi, a mixed martial arts-themed manga, as his return to the magazine after a four-year absence.
